Cammeray: 5 km from CBD, feels distant,

Just five kilometres from Sydney’s CBD, Cammeray has only one traffic light in between. However, this detail adds to its charm.

Framed by leafy streets, this family-oriented neighbourhood quietly draws in those who prefer the tranquility of suburbia. Yet, they still enjoy city life.

Life in Cammeray unfolds at a leisurely pace. Strolling along tree-lined streets reveals heritage homes and lovely green spaces throughout the area.

Meanwhile, Miller Street buzzes with cafe-goers relishing al fresco dining. On weekends, Tunks Park transforms into the neighbourhood’s vibrant outdoor playground.

Here, sports enthusiasts and boaters delight in the beauty of Middle Harbour. Overall, Cammeray offers a unique blend of suburban peace and urban convenience.

Tranquility by the coast

From impressive Federation homes to contemporary architectural wonders, the suburb’s housing offers a variety of appealing features. Moreover, some residences blend the two styles seamlessly.

“It’s a suburb surrounded by water, with numerous homes featuring stunning water views or direct access to Middle Harbour,” explains Peter Chauncy from McGrath Crows Nest.

“Affluent buyers appreciate the space and tranquility found by the shore. Meanwhile, downsizers from Mosman and the eastern suburbs are attracted to boutique apartments.”

These townhouses provide both amenities and convenience, making them an appealing choice for those looking to downsize. Overall, the housing market reflects a unique blend of styles and lifestyles.

Cammeray’s appeal is evident in its increasing property prices. Currently, the median house price stands at $2.67 million.

This amount reflects a significant rise of 45.5 percent over the last five years, as reported by Domain’s latest House Price Report.

“Families are attracted to Cammeray because of its well-respected public school and new high school,” Chauncy explains.

Additionally, the suburb is close to some of the finest private schools located on the lower north shore.

“Parents are willing to pay a premium to ensure their children receive a top-tier education,” he adds.

At the same time, they enjoy the luxury of remaining connected to city life while living in this suburb.

Room to grow

When families in inner-city Sydney outgrow their living spaces, suburbs like Cammeray often provide a suitable solution.

Such was the situation for Svetlana Thorpe, who moved with her family in 2011 after their unit in Pyrmont became cramped.

“We wanted to remain close to the city for my husband’s commute. Additionally, we needed access to excellent schools.

Cammeray checked every box for us,” Thorpe shares. “After more than a decade living here, it’s hard to imagine anywhere else.”

From Maggio’s delicious cakes and pastries to the beautiful bushwalking trails of Tunks Park, there’s always something to enjoy.

Svetlana has fully embraced the neighbourhood and actively participates in the community. Her children attended Cammeray Public School, where she volunteered on the parent committee.

“The local schools have outstanding reputations, and the sense of camaraderie among residents is truly unparalleled,” she adds.

“I’ve met so many wonderful people here. I’m just one of many who proudly call Cammeray home.”
