A recent study by the AAA, involving 2000 Victorian apartment owners, revealed that 58 percent had encountered defects.
Moreover, a staggering 76 percent reported that they were still awaiting repairs from the builder.
Samantha Reece, the group’s CEO and founder, highlighted serious concerns in a statement.
She stated, “We have case studies collected over seven years through the VCAT process.
Unfortunately, this situation has significantly impacted people’s mental health, with some individuals tragically taking their own lives.”
Reece emphasized the gravity of the issue, noting that purchasing a home is one of life’s most expensive decisions.
Consequently, discovering severe building defects that may require complete reconstruction highlights a major flaw in the current system.
In light of these findings, Reece urged the Allan state government to respond effectively for consumer protection.
