The historic surf club proudly claims to have invented the inflatable rescue boat in the 1960s, thanks to Warren Mitchell OAM.
Initially, he faced considerable teasing for his idea, but this innovation has become vital for ocean rescue efforts worldwide.
At Avalon Beach, these boats are regularly utilized, as rips and powerful surf keep lifesavers actively engaged in their duties.
A beautiful ocean pool offers a safer swimming alternative, enhancing the area’s appeal for families and visitors alike.
Moreover, the après-water scene is thriving, supported by the club’s café and restaurant, which recently relaunched under new ownership.
Sayers enjoys spotting whales during their annual migration from his home, affirming Avalon as an ideal place to raise a family.
“The community’s demographic is diverse,” he notes, mentioning academics, film industry professionals, and tradies picking up their kids from school.
“The national park lies just behind us, alongside sailing opportunities on Pittwater and the surf.
Overall, Avalon has maintained its charm over the past 50 years, and many residents see that as a wonderful thing.”
