Sydney Metro transforms opportunities for first home buyers,
Before the Sydney Metro opened in 2019, young professional Dan Carr struggled with his daily commute to work.
Taking the bus from West Pennant Hills to the city center took him well over an hour each day.
“I really love West Pennant Hills; it’s full of trees and a peaceful escape from the busy CBD life,” he said.
However, he felt the need to get closer to the city for greater convenience regarding his job and lifestyle.
When the metro extension opened in August this year, everything changed dramatically for Dan and his brother Harry Carr.
Overnight, his lengthy commute was reduced to just 30 minutes, providing him with a new sense of freedom.
“Being able to reach the city quickly means I can continue living in a place I truly enjoy,” Dan explained.
His experience reflects a larger trend of young people opting to stay in the leafy suburbs of north-west Sydney.
Previously, the Hills were mainly inhabited by families and empty-nesters on large properties, with little appeal for young professionals.

A steady influx of apartments is significantly impacting first home buyers in the north-west region of Sydney.
Recently, Mirvac introduced a new project named Highforest, which focuses on nature and offers a variety of apartments and houses.
This collection is specifically designed for a new generation of buyers looking for modern, sustainable living options in their communities.
The first release of Highforest has been remarkably successful, with 75 percent of apartments and homes sold off-the-plan already.
Additionally, Dan and Harry Carr were among the early buyers, eager to invest in this promising new development in the area.
Warwick Bible, general manager of residential development for NSW and Queensland at Mirvac, highlighted the suburb’s characteristic executive-style family homes on large lots.
As a result, West Pennant Hills is highly desirable but lacks housing diversity, making it difficult for first home buyers to enter.
To tackle this problem, we are offering a variety of housing options that are conveniently located near essential transport links in the area.
In total, the new community will feature 414 homes, comprising 165 houses and 249 uniquely designed “treehouse inspired” apartments.
Moreover, the project incorporates possum nest boxes and electric vehicle charging stations, enhancing its commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being.
Additionally, the site encompasses ten hectares of native bushland, providing residents with opportunities to enjoy nature while promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
